    Dont be fooled, this is a phenomenal musical sub!

    I have had SV subwoofers since 2004, starting with the PB2-Plus line. Everyone knows their subs hit hard and deep for home theater content and that’s why I went with them originally.

    Recently I upgraded my two channel space and got a pair of Wilson Audio MAXX series 3 loudspeakers, paired with a D’agastino Progression pre-amp and stereo amplifier. My vocabulary cant adequately capture what it is like listening to music on these speakers, but I found that there was a bit more bass extension in my room that was lacking and wanted a subwoofer to help bridge the gap. I reached out to my dealer who recommended REL, saying it would pair perfectly with my system.

    Unfortunately, the REL models I was looking at were simply too big for the space I had. Then I came across a glowing review of the SB17-R, and its dimensions were exactly perfect for the space I had. I talked to SVS, expressing my concerns that their subwoofer, while excellent on paper, may not be fast and accurate enough to keep up with my system. I was reassured that they would happily put up their subwoofer against any of the best and know it was more than capable.

    So I ordered one, set it up, and let me tell you, it’s outstanding. It’s not working hard in my set up but it’s filling in the low end quite nicely and added just that little bit I wanted to feel the music in my chest. Couldn’t be happier.

    In general very nicely done! Great sound and looks. One question - The first thing I had to do when I received the sub was to upgrade the firmware before I could do anything else. Couldn't that have been done at the factory before it left you?

    Great Sub

    I purchased two of these beasts for my 3000 cu ft theater in a living area and I couldn't be happier. These fill my space with WAY more output than I could ever need. The headroom on these things is just totally amazing. I had to turn them way down to just keep the house from rattling. If you're considering purchasing these, then do it - or at least take advantage of their trial period. I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed.
